Guiding Tomorrow’s Leaders: Inside the Annual YPC-LIT Blairstown Day
Each summer, we are reminded of the extraordinary potential that emerges when young people are given the space, support, and encouragement to grow. At the Princeton-Blairstown Center (PBC), this growth takes many forms, from overcoming physical challenges on our trails to preparing for the world beyond our campus. On Saturday, July 25th, that preparation took center stage as our Leaders-in-Training (LIT) spent an inspiring, action-packed day with the PBC Young Professionals Committee (YPC).
The focus of the day was clear: equipping our future leaders with the tools, confidence, and insights they need to navigate upcoming college and career paths. Members of the YPC provided invaluable, hands-on coaching, leading practical workshops focused on resume building and crafting a strong professional online presence through LinkedIn. The true highlight of the morning, however, came during an interactive career panel. Our LITs did not just sit back and listen; they asked deeply insightful questions that matter to today’s youth. They sought authentic advice on finding true purpose in a career, protecting and prioritizing mental health, and identifying future workplaces that align closely with personal values.
The learning on Saturday went both ways. In true PBC fashion, our LITs confidently took the lead in the afternoon, demonstrating their growing leadership and facilitation skills. They hosted the YPC members for high-energy teambuilding games and guided them on a comprehensive tour of the Campus. A major highlight of the tour was the LITs' own summer service project: a newly cleared and constructed campsite named "EverLIT Hollows." This special site will serve as a dedicated home for all future generations of LITs, leaving a beautiful, lasting legacy on our historic grounds.
Of course, no day at PBC is complete without outdoor adventure. To celebrate a successful day of collaboration and mentorship, the YPCs and LITs took full advantage of the gorgeous summer weather. Together, they paddled canoes down to the beaver dam at the far end of Bass Lake, sharing laughs and building bonds on the water.
This wonderful day perfectly illustrates the core of our mission: bridging the gap between potential and opportunity. By connecting passionate YPCs with eager LITs, we build a community of mutual support and inspiration. We are deeply grateful to our YPC members for donating their time and expertise, and immensely proud of our LITs for stepping boldly into their futures. Together, we are ensuring that the lessons learned at PBC ripple out into the wider world.
